"A mother should not have to die"

Merlin launched a new report on maternal mortality in countries in crisis on May 5. I did some of the photos - you can seem them on the Merlin site, download the report, see a seven photo slide show here, or see more outtakes on my portfolio site www.GlennaGordon.com.

Read more about Mama Zeena, an amazing woman and amazing midwife, on BBC, in the Guardian, and elsewhere.

Great pictures.
We should keep the women alive - this is beautiful and encouraging.

my favorite thing about your blog is that you highlight so many "unsung heroes" and so many important stories that would otherwise be ignored. I've learned so many new things even though I've just started following your blog. I even showed it to a couple of my friends and my professors at college, and now they are following too.

What kind of camera do you use? It takes amazing pictures!

@Mjay - Thanks - that's the idea :-)

@Oucllama - Thanks as well and for sharing my blog with your friends and teachers. I snap with a Canon 5d. Almost all of these photos were taken with a 50mm lens - my favorite to snap with! I'd like to also try a 24 or 35 one of these days, but saving up for that will take awhile.
